A deficiency can lead to tendons and ligaments not being optimally formed or regenerated, which reduces the resilience of the musculoskeletal system and increases the risk of injuries.
Copper is also crucial for the formation of the pigment melanin, which is responsible for the colouring of the skin and coat. Inadequate supply can lead to visible pigment disorders, which manifest themselves in a pale coat colour or the characteristic greying of dark areas. Horses in regions with sandy, muddy or swampy soils are often particularly affected by copper deficiency.
